CUSTOMER STORY: FIRST STUDENT, INC
First Student provides school bus drivers for districts in 44 states. Onboarding compliance manager Rachel Marks explains how First Advantages helps them centralize hiring and stay on top of state regulations nationwide.
So First Student and First Advantage have been in partnership since 2020. Initially, were very fragmented with our onboarding, and so they definitely helped us streamline really our decision making across the board. More recently, since I've sort of taken over the compliance team, we moved from a highly decentralized onboarding model where each of our locations were in 44 states with 600 contracts essentially, and everyone was handling their own onboarding pieces. And in the last year, we moved that to a centralized onboarding team of 42 people. Because we are spread out across so many states in The United States, it's very, very difficult to know all the regulatory laws state by state. I, with confidence, can say that First Advantage is on top of it. With DOT regulations, with state regulations changing, they really partner with us to make sure that we're compliant. And I trust that if First Advantage is showing us something on a background check, we're allowed to use it to make a decision. You know, I'm putting people on a bus with a bus driver. Students, I have kids, right? I can just really trust what I'm doing and I can lay my head on my pillow at night and know that, like, we're mitigating risk and getting the right people driving these kids and I do understand that I could not do that without trusting my background check vendor essentially.
